FAQ

Q: How can I get editing support?

A: While the OER publishing program cannot offer editing support directly, we have compiled a list of possibilities for outsourcing editing. Please see our recommended places to outsource editing under Resources.

Q: Is the OER publishing program connected to the University of Delaware Press?

A: No, the open digital press is independent and separate from the University of Delaware Press. The OER publishing program is exclusively for independent Pressbooks publications. However, the Press is a resource for the UD community and can provide guidance on developing and organizing publishing projects. If you are seeking such guidance, you may reach the Press here (https://udpress.udel.edu/).

Q: Is the OER publishing program different from the Open and Affordable Teaching Materials grant or OATM authoring grant?

A: Yes, the OER publishing program is a non-grant-funded program that is separate from the OATM grants. The Open and Affordable Teaching Materials grants offer transition grants for faculty interested in replacing traditional materials with open materials, and authoring grants for faculty interested in creating their own resource. To learn more about the OATM grants, go to the Open and Affordable Teaching Materials Grants page.

Q: Can I still apply for an OATM grant if I’m working on an OER through Pressbooks?

A: Yes! Faculty working on independent OER projects with Pressbooks can and are encouraged to apply for an OATM grant. Starting to develop an OER in Pressbooks can also help you think through your project, and can lead to a stronger application for an OATM grant. To learn about applying for an authoring grant, go to the Open and Affordable Grants page.
